Joomla 1.7 install core edit problems was created by skysetter
I am very new to Joomla and run the software through my internet service provider, godaddy, instead of having the application on my computer. For the 1.6/1.7 install ask the user to complete core edits. I can't get to this area. How can I complete this task without access to Joomla core? This software is useless to me right now. Help!

Well I am not familiair with Godaddy. But the small edits where on 2 core files of Joomla. The index.php file on the frontoffice and the index.php file on the administration site. It's should be no problem to edit these. Otherwise Joomla is useless on Godaddy.
I think you make a mistake. The install Joomla for you.. instead of doing this yourself. This don't mean you can't edit these files.
You can try the free version first on joomla 1.5.

When I paid for and downloaded mavickshop2, which I think is the correct version for Joomla 1.7, it does not have the file com_marvikshop_core.zip. This is the 1st file I am instructed to install with the component manager which doesn't exist in Joomla 1.7. Instead the extension manager is used to install components along with plugins and modules in Joomla 1.7
So, I am assuming that the correct 1st file to install is com_marvickshop.zip. I have tried installing this file multiple times, both before making the core php program changes referenced in step 1.3 and 1.4. and after making the referenced changes. Both times the extension manager (remember, joomla 1.7 does not have a component manager). I keep getting the error message: Error uploading this file to the server.
Can you help me?

We changed your comments in the from paragraph in the instruction file. There is no _core file after unzip you got 6 files.
I think the error has got to do with the rights of the dirs. First of all the file will be uploaded to the .tmp dir. (777) after that it goes to the component/language dirs in the front and on the admin site. Be sure the rights are fine to install anything in the Joomla.
for changing the core file the best way is to use a ftp_program

I'm sorry, your guidance has not helped me at all. I am still unable to use your product. At this time I would like a refund of my purchase. I will not be using your product. It is not ready to use in Joomla 1.7

We like try to help you. But as you describe before you are very new at Joomla. How can you buy a component, if you don't understand Joomla 1.7?
There are a lot of free components around. Also on this site we got a free MarvikShop version to test on Joomla first.
Please read our store policy and also from other sites when buying something. The money is used for development of the program in future.
The program works perfect in Joomla 1.7. That was the major thing we develope it.
"I keep getting the error message: Error uploading this file to the server."
This error had something to do with the directory permission in Joomla 1.7 and not with MarvikShop.

Suggestion - Fix the problems!
When you sell a Module or Plugin you should be able to upload it and it works. You shouldn't have to mess with code in order to make it work. Anyone, new or seasoned, should be able to upload and use your application. Shame on you for producing a product that doesn't work out of the box. You should notify customers that you need to be an expert in Joomla and PHP before purchasing this product.
If the tweaks and fixes worked, I wouldn't be writing this right now. But, they don't. They only uncover additional problems with the application. Shame on you!
